How Yobe tackled the humanitarian crisis caused by Boko Haram

By George Onmonya Daniel

About two weeks ago ISWAP, the breakaway half of Boko Haram, attacked Geidam in Yobe State in the middle of the Ramadan. As the news hit Nigeria, families of people in Geidam kept calling whoever they can to make the story go viral so that the federal government would come to the rescue. The military were absent in Geidam for 24 hours and families of people in Geidam were desperate. After 24 hours ISWAP allowed the people of Geidam to leave town as they wait confrontation from the Nigerian military. Over 6000 Geidam resident fled town to seek shelter far away from town.

With no home, no food, displaced in one of the most difficult terrain in Nigeria, one man is left to take care of their needs, and this man is no one but Dr. Mohammed Goje, the man in charge of Yobe State Emergency Management. He was ordered by Governor Mai Mala, the governor of Yobe State to take care of the people. I called Dr. Goje in the midst of this crisis. He was in overwhelmed but the job has to be done and he did it perfectly.

Yobe State Emergeny agency kicked off and started working immediately Governor Mai Mala Buni gave the order. Dr. Goje got his team together, including volunteers and they went to work, taking care of the displaced from Geidam. Feeding 6000 mouths is not easily but Dr. Goje took care of it.

Today Geidam resident have gone back and in a clime where social media users and bloggers can be hard on government officials, Development IMPACT can categorically state that no one is complaining of the wonderful job done by Dr. Goje.

The Yobe State government under Governor Mai Mala Buni had been able to manage the crisis in Geidam efficiently and quietly.
